Course Description


No matter what you do outdoors, this class is for you. Hunting, fishing, hiking, kayaking, bird watching, anyone can find this class useful. This is an in depth study of land navigation from an experienced navigator. Learn about earth mapping, map reading, compass reading, the Global Positioning System, and the GPS receiver. Learn formal theory and tricks of the trade. You are guaranteed to learn something. Students can bring your own handheld GPS receiver (NO CAR GPS units). Map, compass, protractors, water and coffee provided - if you do not have a GPS - contact the instructor to borrow one. The class is graded and successful students earn a certificate.  Class meets standards for National Association for Search and Rescue and most of the education requirements for the Boy Scout Merit Badge.  The instructor is a Registered Merit Badge Counselor.
