Expeditionary Rope Work Course

When: August 2, 2003 (Saturday)

Time: 9:00 am Course Length: 6 hours

Course Location: Fallasburg One Room Schoolhouse and Flat River

Who: Instructor - Chuck Hayden, Fortune Bay Expeditionary Team, Expedition Leader, the Lost Bush Plane Expedition

Why: This course is the prerequisite for the Lost Bush Plane Expedition in 2003. Individuals who will be joining the Expedition must attend this course or have attained similar experience from another source. (Subject to approval of the team staff). Everyone is welcome to take the course, even if you are not participating in the expedition.

What: The course demonstrates the necessary basic rope work skills needed for the Lost Bush Plane expedition.

The Course will cover:

1) Equipment and care
2) Knot Tying
3) Personal equipment configurations
4) Rope work and other equipment configurations
5) Construction of and crossing a two-rope bridge
6) Constructing a rappelling configuration
7) Basic rappelling
8) Belaying

9) Rescue and ascending
10) Safety
11) Expedition Logistics and Lost Bush Plane Planning Q&A

The course would be an excellent time to ask questions about the expedition and to help in planning the expedition. If you are attending the course and the expedition, please bring a resume outlining your outdoor experience. This resume will be used to determine your assigned expedition tasks.

What to bring: Rugged clothing and gear that can get wet. Loose shirts are discouraged (ie very baggy T-shirts) Long hair should be secured. Bring water and snacks. The course should last past lunch. Bring a lunch, as we will not stop for it. In short, bring what you would bring for a 4-5 hour day hike. All the necessary course equipment is supplied by the team.
