North Country National Scenic Trail
Exploration
The North Country National Scenic Trail is a premier footpath that one day will stretch more than 4,000 miles to link communities and wilderness areas across seven northern states. Already, more than 1,600 miles have been completed! The map above shows the projected trail in its entirety. When completed it will be the longest hiking trail in the United States.
The expedition of the North Country Trail is being done in sections on week ends and in 3-6 day blocks, and covers approximately 10-16 miles a day. The expedition has 5 main objectives.
1) Promote the Fortune Bay Expeditionary Team
2) Promote the North Country Trail, the North Country Trail Association and its chapters
3) The successful completion signifies the achievement of professional membership for Bill "Wapiti" Smith who is the Team Leader
4) To gather data, resources, information and to map the trail in Michigan. Also, to provide this information to the public.
Anyone who becomes a general member of the expeditionary team is invited to join the hike on any section or in its entirety.
