"The Crew"

Pathfinder, Expedition Leader. "Pathfinder" was one of his old army qualifications. He loves to navigate and has an ego about it. The other team members have other "names" for him, but "Pathfinder" is the most prevalent.

Kramer, Expedition Navigator. Named after the Seinfeld character. During this expedition, he had a situation with Government's stove which continues to prove, he is forever earning his name.

Magellan, Expedition Navigator and Mapping Specialist. Because of his outstanding performance as navigator and mapper on this expedition.

Belvedere, Assistant to the Navigator (Kramer's Assistant) and Newsletter Editor (yeah, we are suppose to have one??). Not sure how he got his name.

Wapiti, Alpha Team Leader. Wapiti is Shawnee for the "white rump of an elk", and he earned the name for the constant need to take a "squat and swat" in the woods. On a past expedition, we saw his "Wapiti" on many occasions, hence the name .

Papa, Bravo Team Leader, called "Papa" because he can tell a story like Ernest "Papa" Hemingway. He is also "senior" to most of us. But, he won't let you prove it.

Chappy, the Chaperon. Because he seemed to be the only responsible adult.

Chipmunk, Expedition Record holder (youngest expedition member). Chipmunk earned his name for annoying Pathfinder in a chipmunkish manner.

Costello, his hair used to look like Elvis Costello's.

Government, South Park Team Leader, and Hahnfelding Inventor. Government, because he is a scientist (hydrologist) for the USGS (works for the Government). Pronounced "gub-ment".

Liteweight, so called for his "extreme" passion for light weight backpacking.

Litre (pronounced Lee-tray) Interesting story. While riding along, he began joking about how the Canadians spelled "Liter". It was the first thing he really said to the group, hence the name "Litre".

Old School, Team Researcher. Old School is the author of many books and things. His pack is vintage, early 1970's. So, we call him Old School.

Paddy is one of the founding members. So called because of his Irish descent and his tin whistle playing.

Professor was first called Batman because he was the first to enter the mine, which is normally full of bats. He was renamed "Professor" because of his general intellectual personality (seriousness) and the three and a half hour discussion with Liteweight and Pathfinder about "Constitutional Law and the Supreme Court". (He drove everyone else to bed).

Recondo has the quiet disposition of a jungle commando (he spent some time in Central America). He has never really told us the whole story. When asked, "What unit are you with?", he just smiles a blank smile and says nothing! Hmm?

Red Squirrel earned his name because of his slender built and incessant annoying behavior toward Pathfinder. Like a Red Squirrel. Just look at his smile.

Kemosobi is a retired Sheriff's Deputy. He has the demeanor of the Lone Ranger. He usually goes by Vic, though.

West (looking east). West is his real name, it's pretty cool as is. Don't worry, he will earn a new one.
