Life at Base Camp
Basecamp was roomy, comfortable and right on
the tracks. Pictured here is the common area, mess area, and social area.
With 19 Expeditioners, the common area was a
busy place. Pictured here is dinner time.
Papa really seemed to enjoy meal time at base
camp.
The entire expedition enjoyed the evening with
cheap cigars and whiskey. Pictured here is Pathfinder, Papa, and Red Squirrel.
Red Squirrel displays the "Fortune Bay
Blank Stare". This stare is a communication tool used to tell someone
that their joke was far from funny and far from making sense.
Although firewood was plenty, it was also too
big for the fire. Here Red Squirrel displays the proper way to start a wedge
split with a railroad spike.
West demonstrates efficient technique by using
a brick to drive the spikes into the firewood.
Government and Litre, representing "Team South Park", expanded
the mess area 25 feet to the train trestle. In the background is the Agawa
Canyon and the Agawa River.
I found a spoon, sir! Wapiti enjoys breakfast.
Base camp recreational activities. Even though the canyon provided plenty
of areas for rappel, the team did not have enough rope this year. We did
rappel, however, off the train trestle near base camp.
Chipmunk holds the record for being the youngest expedition member. (???11
years old???).
The Expedition Team. Left to right, top row Kemosobi, Wapiti, Chappy, Costello,
Paddy, Red Squirrel, Magellan, Professor (Batman), Recondo, Litre, Liteweight.
Bottom row, left to right, West (looking south) Chipmunk, Papa, Belvedere,
Kramer and Papa. Not pictured is Pathfinder, who took the picture and Old
School.
The team riding the Algoma Central Railroad back to Frater, Ontario. It
is a special treat to ride in cargo car.
Pathfinder enjoys the view at 30 MPH.
The team disembarked the train at Frater, Ontario. Then, we went for "Big
Bad Wolf" bacon double cheeseburgers at the Northgate Restaurant.
