Expedition Itinerary
Start - Board Agawa Central Railroad-Passenger Train in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
Leave Wednesday August 15th at 5:00 pmThe train ride will be about 3 hours. We will travel about 160 miles into the Canadian Bush and the Agawa Canyon.
Set up Base Camp
We
will disembark the train approximately 3 miles south of the Agawa Canyon Tour
Train park. We will set up base camp near the railroad tracks. At base camp
we will set up the generator, satellite uplink, and computer equipment as
well as tents, sleeping quarters, mess area, latrine and other quarters.
Explore Agawa Canyon
The main body will break up into exploration teams
and hike around the Agawa Canyon. Land Features to be explored include many
unmapped trails, Agawa Falls, Agawa Canyon Tour train park, Black Beaver Lake,
various falls and other features. Members will record their exploration with
GPS marking features and trails.
Search for Lost Bush Plane
With weather and time permitting, a team will attempt to search for a lost bush plane that is rumored to have crashed at an unnamed lake.

The team will ride the Agawa Passenger Trail back
to Sault Ste. Marie.

Summary
This expedition is suited for beginners, but members should prepare for course by hiking an average of 20 miles per week for 2 months before the course. All members should consult with their physician before considering this trip. Members will be required to hike around 6-14 miles per day. It is recommended that all members arrange to team up with a partner for the trip. Members should also certify through a Fortune Bay Expeditionary Team Land Navigation course or have experience in land navigation, GPS usage before embarking on the expedition. The expedition will also attempt to explore the canyon area and to find and research local artifacts, such as abandoned settlements, logging camps, etc.
The expedition plans to setup and operate a real time remote internet satellite up link that will be sent to this website. Individuals with experience in this area are encouraged to assist in planning and execution.
There is no cost for the expedition.
